Liz took up green woodwork in the early 90s, and quickly moved from making traditional chairs and stools
to creating furniture in a freeform style.
influences:
Gudrun Leitz who encouraged me to go ‘freeform'
James Krenov – “the impractical cabinet maker”
woodland and bird ecology,
and the essential reciprosity within it
Arts and Crafts, and Bauhaus movements
maker’s focus:
to value the hidden woodlands of the West Wales coast
sustainability and ‘social justice’ for the natural world
reduce the environmental footprint of the furniture maker
promote a modern revaluation of the artisan woodworker
The old woodland management skills of the artisan coppicer/ furniture maker are only 75 years gone in this area.
Natural Chairs works towards local examples of that heritage being restored in West Wales.
